The New Jim Crow (TNJC) is “the secular bible for the new social movement in early twenty-first-century America” says Cornel West in the Introduction. He further states that TNJC “shifts our attention from the racial symbol of America’s achievement to the actual substance of America’s shame: the massive use of state power to incarcerate hundreds of thousands of precious poor, black, male (and increasingly female) young people in the name of the bogus ‘War on Drugs.’” Join us in reading and discussing The New Jim Crow in a 4-part series starting Sunday afternoon March 5 from 4:00 to 5:30. The series continues on March 19 and April 3 & 16. If you have questions or would like to participate, contact Fred Matthews at 206.935.3038 or by at seafam2010@gmail.com.
