WEDDINGS AND LIFE PARTNERSHIP CEREMONIES
We welcome requests from couples (heterosexual, gay or lesbian) who are not Fellowship members, and who are searching for a minister for their wedding or life partnership ceremony. We work with couples to design their own special ceremony that speaks of their relationship, dreams and commitment. It is our desire to help people create a heart-full ceremony that is personal and spiritual, without any offensive dogma. We feel it is our honor to stand with couples at the moment of their public commitment to one another, and to work with you to consider both the large questions that occur when planning a wedding, as well as the small details that help to make ceremonies meaningful.
As a way of beginning planning, we provide a ceremony packet listing common components of weddings, with many examples of each component to choose from. Some components include:
We also encourage couples to contribute their own ideas, and to involve friends and family members in their ceremony.
Of Special Note: Our religious tradition has decades of commitment to gay and lesbian couples, officiating life partnership ceremonies. Unitarian Universalists are also committed to bringing about full legal and civic equality for all loving couples. Despite the disappointing recent decision of the State of Washington’s Supreme Court to uphold the discriminatory “Defense of Marriage” statute, we will gladly continue to honor these relationships through our life partnership/commitment ceremonies.
All couples may contact us to arrange a time to meet and to explore further. A reasonable fee is charged. Give us a call for more information.
