Beloved Community Cafe September 18

On Sunday, September 18, 2022 we’re kicking off the effort to put our newly adopted 8th Principle into action at WSUU. Join the Racial Justice Change Team in coordination with the WSUU Board from 10:00 am – noon in the Social Hall to begin the co-creation of a plan to move forward on different aspects of what makes a Beloved Community. We’ll be following WSUU’s protocols for in-person events, including wearing masks and spreading out.

We realize that the café on the 18th will not work for everyone, so there will also be a follow-up Zoom event on Wednesday, September 21, at 7:00 – 8:30 pm. It’s important that we hear from you. Please RSVP here (the RSVP includes an option for both meetings) by September 14 to be part of dynamic small-group discussions of these issues:

Right Relations: What agreements should we make to conduct ourselves with one another? How do we set expectations and build trust? What practices can we put into place to help in navigating cross-cultural and other conflicts?

Spiritual and Personal Growth: Each of us is impacted by racism and other oppressions in different ways. What offerings would engage WSUU members and friends as part of a spiritual journey of seeking understanding, overcoming personal biases, and building affirming relationships?

Action In the Wider Community: How can we effectively work to dismantle racism and other oppressions outside our walls? What opportunities are there for building relationships with local organizations that are doing this work?

Institutional Equity: WSUU has formal and informal ways of doing its work. In what ways do our current operations promote equity and how can we recognize and break down barriers to equity that exist in our current systems?

The conversations that we have on September 18 will result in concrete, sustainable, next steps forward on our journey toward spiritual wholeness as expressed in the 8th Principle. We want to hear your ideas about what WSUU should prioritize in building a Beloved Community.

Don’t forget to RSVP Here for either meeting by September 14!
