Westside Welcomes Carter Smith, Our New Contract Minister

The Board and the Search Committee are extremely pleased to introduce Carter Smith (she, her pronouns) as our half time contract minister beginning March 1. Carter has been granted Preliminary Fellowship by the UUA and will be ordained by her home congregation in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in May. At that time, she will formally take on the title of Reverend.

Westside’s New Minister, Carter Smith

We were impressed with Carter’s integrity, her curiosity about all things WSUU, her ability to problem solve, to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds, her love of Unitarian Universalism,  her actions that demonstrate a real commitment to equity and her all around thoughtfulness. She is a good preacher. With these experiences and others, Carter has served and learned from a variety of places in the wider faith and is looking forward to continuing her ministry here at Westside.

Carter interned at First Unitarian Church in Portland and served as their Summer Minister. She has her Masters of Divinity from Harvard Divinity School. She completed a hospital chaplaincy internship at Legacy Emanuel. She served as Youth Co-Coordinator at the UU Congregation of Marin and was an intern at the UU College of Social Justice.

Carter will be serving as our half-time minister, so stay tuned for additional information describing her role with us. She will be commuting from Portland, Oregon, and will be here in Seattle two work weeks (including Sundays) per month. The board and staff have all met Carter and are excited to begin working with her. The board approved her hire unanimously.
