How are you and your family doing in these times? What is nourishing you? One thing that helps sustain my hope is doing what might feel like small acts of kindness and generosity in my communities.
At a time when world events are so overwhelming, we often feel confused and uncertain about what to do. The social change ecosystem framework has been an anchor and guide for many people and groups to organize our roles and strengthen our connections.
This Sunday, January 18,10:30 am – noon at our All Congregation Event: MLK Sunday Day of Action, I will be sharing “the social change ecosystem map for children and their caregivers” from We Are the Builders, a book by Deepa Iyer. “What they discover is that there’s a place for every person, no matter their skills or interests – and that collaboration is what makes their community strong.”
All of Westside – including families and children – are invited to join Westside’s Racial Justice Team for a commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s work. This is not a child drop-off event, so parents/caregivers will be expected to stay onsite with their children.
The Racial Justice Change Team will provide a variety of activities to engage in, geared for both adults and youth. Families are invited to attend with their children. I will be offering child friendly activities such as children’s books about social change and equity, UU values coloring pages, and immigrant solidarity zine-making.
In gratitude,
