OMG! The church year is speeding to an end. May is a busy time on the WSUU Board calendar and for various committees engaged in sustaining the vitality of our congregation. A big Wahoo!! For the Stewardship Team and to all of the Westside members and friends who stepped forward and pledged over $241,000 to our congregation. We had some record increases that offset reductions. Our pledge drive always surfaces changes in membership, underscores commitment and investment, and reveals the varied economic realities of our personal budgets. We are grateful and appreciative for the reflection, engagement, and thoughtfulness everyone puts into this process.
Also, in high gear this Spring is the Nominating Committee. Wow, what a creative campaign to engage and solicit interest in leadership in our congregation. Bravo! Thank you to the NomCom and to all the folks who have considered and accepted the opportunity to serve WSUU as a GA Delegate, Board Trustee, and future NomCom member. But wait, there is more…the Finance Team has been chewing on the numbers that came in from the pledge drive and drafting our 2026-27 budget. And yes, you made the job easier with your generosity. We will continue to operate on tight margins, but we are dipping less deeply into our reserves, which means we are continuing to be responsible stewards of our assets AND pay fair and equitable wages to our beloved staff.
All this is to say that the Board’s work is never in isolation. It is fed by and in concert with so many other dedicated and skilled leaders in our congregation. I look forward to our annual congregational meeting on June 7 when we can reflect on the past year and affirm our commitment to moving forward with sustained energy and dynamic leadership.
In community,
Jill Jackson, President
WSUU Board of Trustees
