How Our UU Faith Evolves Over Time—and How the Heck That Relates to “Article II”!

Did you realize you are part of a Living FaithDid you realize UUs are courageous enough to
keep their minds open about their beliefs, and to update them periodically (ideally every 15
years) in light of the evolving world around us and our understanding of it?

The last full review was done in the 1980s, so the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) was
long overdue in initiating the current review in 2021. Each update is intended to help UUs live
into the future with a UU faith that is appropriate for the times and can continue to hold its
members in the face of great need and of ethical, moral and spiritual crises.

We are in the midst of one of those all-important update times right now, and the principles,
purposes, bylaws and rules of the UUA are undergoing review and discussion. The current
review is focused on “Article II of the UUA Bylaws”—a terribly dry term that encompasses the
very heart of our faith, including the 7 Principles and 6 Sources!

Thousands of UUs have had their say in the Article II revision process over the past couple
years, and now the latest draft of a new Article II is available. This draft will be up for an initial
vote at General Assembly (GA) in late June, and there will be a three-month process prior to
that for suggesting amendments.

Please stay tuned for more information to follow! In the meanwhile, feel free to browse the
